Magister Log Splitter Hydraulic Cylinders

These Magister welded log splitter hydraulic cylinders are built specifically for wood-splitting applications that use a clevis-mounted, double-acting ram. Five bore-and-stroke combinations are available, covering common replacement and new-build configurations from 4" through 5" bore and 24" through 30" stroke.

Each cylinder uses a welded clevis mount at the base and a drilled pin-hole rod end. All variants are rated for operating pressures up to 3,500 PSI and use 1/2" NPT hydraulic ports. The larger-bore options provide greater piston area and therefore more available splitting force at the same system pressure, while smaller bores require less oil volume and generally cycle faster with the same pump flow.

Welded Cylinder Construction for Log Splitters

The WLS-style design uses a honed steel barrel, hard-chrome-plated rod and welded mounting hardware rather than a tie-rod construction. The base clevis provides a substantial pivot connection to the splitter beam or frame, while the drilled rod end connects to the moving wedge or pusher assembly.

The 4" and 4.5" bore versions use a 1.75" rod. The 5" bore cylinders step up to a 2" rod. This matters when comparing replacements because two cylinders with the same stroke can have different rod diameters, oil volumes and mounting dimensions.

How to Match a Replacement Log Splitter Cylinder

Do not select a replacement from advertised splitter tonnage alone. Verify the bore, stroke, retracted length, extended length, rod diameter, base pin diameter, rod-end pin diameter and port size against the cylinder currently on the machine.

Also confirm that the hydraulic system pressure is within the cylinder's 3,500 PSI rating. Actual splitting force and cycle speed depend on the cylinder bore, system relief setting and pump flow, so increasing bore size may increase force while also increasing the oil volume required for each stroke.
